The 20-year old Shaima Qassem Abdelrahman has proven that Iraqi women has their own right and place in the society through her recent historical win as the first miss Iraq since 1972. She was crowned in Baghdad in a contest that faced fierce conservative opposition as well as reported death threats against some participants. Organizers believe this pageant will revive the long lost beauty pageant in Iraq as well as highlight the beauty side of Iraq while safety threats has put the show in great demise as the hard-liners and tribal leaders sees it as Un-Islamic and immoral.
